Kiteboarding in Sumbawa

From the end of September until the end of October we give kiteboarding lessons on the island of Sumbawa.

This is a world class surfing destination attracting surfers from all over the world. During the last couple of years it has started to attract kiteboarders as well.

During the windy season you can expect daily winds above 20 knots. Early morning it is perfect for surfing and around noon the winds starts to fill in. So bring your surfboard and some small size kites!

The surf breaks on reefs and the inner lagoon is good for flat water riding during the high and medium tides.

There are several kiteboarding spots:

• The Pipe is a short left over a sucking rock ledge.

• The Peak is a classic A-frame with a good left and right. It is usually better for holding big swells and providing good hollow tube sections. The wave is best surfed at low to to mid tide.

• Nungas holds almost any size swell and provides big walls and tubing sections. The bigger it gets, the better it will line up! Side-shore to slightly offshore wind conditions keep the wave faces very smooth with flat water between the waves. Launch in the lagoon in front of the hotels and make a down winder to Nungas. After your session you can take a comfortable drive on the back of a motor to your hotel with one of the many locals waiting for you!
